about me:
My name is Andrew Thomasson. I am a high school English/Digital Publishing teacher at Forestview, and am one half of the online video instructional team TMI (Thomasson Morris Instruction). You can find our instructional videos on YouTube here.
I am an experimenter, first and foremost, always searching for newer and better ways to reach more students more of the time. I flip my classes into a student-centered, project-based adventure (or mess, depending on which day you're watching). This year, I am teaching Desktop Publishing, Film & Literature, and Public Speaking, maybe with a smattering of Creative Writing thrown in. I am also the advisor for The Ninth Life, Forestview's literary arts magazine.
I am in my fourteenth year of teaching (5th at FHS), have a Master's Degree in English Education (WCU, 2008), National Board Certification in Secondary English (2011), and am a Google Certified Innovator (Mountain View, 2014). My undergraduate degree is in Creative Writing, from UNC-Asheville.
I also have an amazing 7-year-old daughter who is in second grade this year, two cats (Bella and Derren), a black Great Dane (Bijou), and a Lhasa Apso mix (Felix).
